The University of Cumbria has undertaken a review of educational provision and facilities on its Lancaster campus, updating its Estates Strategy and is now considering the best uses of some of its estate for the future. The University is keen to improve the quality of accommodation for its students and also to deliver community facilities in association with the county and local authorities and service providers, as well as reduce its overall estate size.
The University has therefore been updating the masterplan for the Lancaster campus and intends to make a planning application for the delivery of new student housing, plus a rationalisation of some elements of its land, including the provision of an Extra Care and a Supported Living facility for local people. This website has been provided for you to see the planned improvements as they stand now and to allow you to leave any comments you may have as part of the planning process.
Normally, the University would host a small number of public consultation events at the Lancaster campus to allow local residents to see the plans in situ and discuss them with the University and its architects and development partners. However, due to the current situation with COVID-19 and in line with Government regulations on social distancing, this public consultation is to be undertaken electronically. Please note that we are inviting your views informally at present, in advance of our planning application to the local authority.
There will still be a full and formal consultation period that will take place after our next stage plans have been submitted to the local authority and you will have another opportunity to comment on those plans at that time.
This is an opportunity for us to engage with you before a planning application is made. Pre-application engagement would normally be confined to events lasting a few hours on a couple of different days, whereas this consultation is open on-line for a whole week. From Wednesday 22nd April through to Wednesday 29th April, you may leave anonymous comments on the plans…
